Swisher coming back to the Bay Area?
Everyone knows since the Yankees have signed Mark Teixeira. That they are
now shopping Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher around to see what deals are out there for them. Only one of them will be traded. They Yanks would like it to be Nady. The rumor going around right now is that Nick Swisher would be a nice match for the San Francisco Giants. Swisher has hit 104 home runs over the last 4 seasons. He does have some pop, but I don’t think it’s enough pop for how low his average is. His highest average of his career is .262 and last season he hit .219. If I wanted to get someone with pop that has a low average. I would just sign Adam Dunn and not lose any players via a trade.

I do think Swisher would be a nice fit for the Giants, but still don’t think he’s the big bat that they said they needed in the middle of their lineup.

So the Yankees signed Swisher just to trade him? Can you imagine the conversation – “Gee Swish, 6 weeks ago you were great but now? Not so good. So thanks but no thanks!” Strange.

This is silly. The Yankees got Swisher and now they’re trading him? WOW. It’s not fair for him!

Here is a link to one of the articles that I have read about this….

Not fair to Swisher? This stuff happens all the time. Plans change. If he does get traded to the Giants, he’ll be a good utility guy who’s a switch hitter. Maybe he’ll rebound from his awful ’08 season. I’m still not sure the Yankees will trade him. Could be Nady instead.

Man it seemed like anytime Swisher ever came to Coors when he was with Oakland it was a tragedy for the Rocks. If he does go somewhere like San Fran I just hope I don’t create more of the same kind of memories!

I agree with you about Swisher. A nice fit in a lot of ways, but that low average would worry me. Long balls are not the only way to score. It helps to be able to get on base period.
I think that Adam Dunn would be a nice fit with the Giants. He isn’t as expensive as Manny and that gives them extra cash to focus on other needs. Their starting rotation is looking pretty good.

Weird with the Yankees about Swisher, they didn’t anticipate getting Mark Teixeira? Strange. From their point of view they probably want to keep Nady. Swisher isn’t terrible, but Manny is probably the guy you need with the big bat.

I think Swisher AVG would take a bump in San Fran, but I like the comparision to Adam Dunn. I would never think to compare these two, but it’s not a far reach!
Enjoy your stuff……Go Giants
King – Congrats on making #11 on the leaders list!

Hi, “King of Cali” …
Welcome to MLBlogs, and “Congratulations” on ranking #11 on the latest mlblogs “Leader’s List” !!! … Regarding your above post, I agree with you, the Giants are much better off just signing Adam Dunn, or even Bobby Abreu, instead of trading for Nick Swisher … It wouldn’t cost the Giants any players, just money !!! … After the Yankees signed Mark Teixeira, Swisher’s role on the team became that of an “average” to “good” player off the bench [OF, 1B, PH, DH] … Also, I still don’t understand why no team has signed Dunn or Abreu yet [of course, money seems to be the main reason] … But, I still hold out hope that the Yankees will bring Bobby Abreu back, because, I think, if he was on the team, he would be their best outfielder [at this time] … Anyway, spring training will be here soon, and many of these players should be signed by then !!! … Best Wishes, and Happy New Year !!! … Jimmy [27NYY], “BY&L” http://baseballtheyankeesandlife.mlblogs.com/
