Johnson started the 2nd inning by hitting first baseman Shealy and then giving up a single to Olivo. Johnson then threw a wild pitch allowing Shealy and Olivo to move up to 3rd and 2nd base with no outs. He then struck out the next batter Smith. Maier then grounded out to score the run from 3rd. Olivo then tried to steal home on the pitch and he was thrown out at the plate by Randy Johnson. Johnson pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 2 strike outs.
The Giants offense still had no luck in the bottom of the 2nd. They went three up and three down again. Molina, Bowker and Phelps couldn’t get anything started. Jonathan Sanchez started the 3rd inning making his spring debut. Sanchez got the first guy but then gave up a hit to Lubanski. Aviles got a gift RBI on a fly ball hit to left field. Velez lost it in the sun, so the ball dropped for a single. Give the Royals a 2 run lead. Sanchez is going to play in the WBC for Puerto Rico and is projected to the be the 3rd starting pitcher.
Burriss was the first Giant to get a hit. He got a single in his first AB. Burriss quickly got himself off the base paths by getting thrown out trying to steal 2nd base. Nothing really exciting from the Giants offense. Bengie Molina got a double and Frandsen hit a home run to get the Giants only run. No Giants players had multiple hits. Randy Johnson, Jonathan Sanchez and Brian Wilson looked really good.
