Giants vs. Team Japan – Giants Fan Fest video
The first batter Tim Lincecum faced was Ichiro and he got him to ground out to 2nd base. Lincecum then gave up a single and struck out the next 2 batters to end the top of the 1st inning. Randy Winn led the Giants bottom of the first off with a walk. Then on a hit and run Renteria got a hit and go Winn to 3rd base. Pablo Sandoval came up with runners on 1st and 3rd and got a RBI single up the middle to score Winn. Renteria then scored on a fly ball Travis Ishikawa. After one inning the Giants lead 2-0 over Japan. After 2 innings of work. Lincecum has given up 1 hit, 1 walk and has 4 strike outs. In the 3rd inning Lincecum did walk Ichiro Suzuki. Lincecum only pitched 2.1 innings giving up 1 hit, 3 walks and 5 strike outs. He did not allow a run.
Edgar Renteria gave the Giants another run by hitting a solo home run in the top of the 3rd and Pablo Sandoval got his 2nd hit of the game with a double right after Renteria’s home run. Sandoval would come in to score. After 3 innings the Giants lead 4-0. Team Japan did scrape a run in the top of the 4th inning off of Jack Taschner. Japan got another run on the top of the 5th inning, and on the bottom half of the inning the Giants went 3 up and 3 down.
Team Japan got the sticks rolling in the top of the 6th. They got 5 straight hits scoring 4 runs and taking a 6-4 lead. The good news for Giants fans is the runs were scored off of Miller, Ju. I’m not sure who that even is. I have never heard of him and I know he’s not going to make the team at the end of spring training. The Giants bats remained silent in the bottom of the 6th.
The score is still Japan 6 and the Giants 4 at the start of the bottom of the 8th. Bocock got a hit and Sandoval followed him with a walk. Gillaspie enters the game as a pinch runner for Sandoval. Williams does a sacrifice bunt to get the runners over to 3rd and 2nd with one out. McClain then walked to load the bases for Matt Downs. Downs hits a smash to the short stop who makes a diving catch and throws to 3rd base before Bocock could get back. That ends the inning and the score remains 6-4 Team Japan going to the 9th.
The final totals are Team Japan 6 runs on 11 hits and 0 errors. The Giants 4 runs, 8 hits and 1 error.
There was 3 Giants players who had 2 hits each. Renteria went 2-3 with 1 RBI and scoring 2 runs. Renteria did hit his first home run in a Giants uniform. Pablo Sandoval went 2-3 with 1 RBI, scoring 1 run and also getting 1 walk. Emmanuel Burriss went 2-3 with 0 RBI’s, and 0 runs scored.
Ichiro Suzuki went 1-3 with a walk, scored 1 run and had a couple stolen bases.
Here is a video from Giants Fan Fest that I found on youtube.

Steven,
Look at you coming in at number nine! I knew you’d be up there in no time :).
Sounds like Lincecum did pretty well too!

Glad to see Renteria is doing so well with the Giants. He’s had a rough go the past couple of years with Boston and Detroit. Here’s hoping he’s found a home.

Just imagine what the Giants may be able to do if Zito could just get his ERA to around 4. With the exception of Webb and Haren in AZ and Peavy in SD, the Giants have really the only staff that could sit down the stacked Dodger lineup this year. Especially with the way Sanchez pitched today in the WBC. Wow, I can just imagine the pain i’m going to feel when the dodgers have to play 6 games against them in September.
