Brewers vs. Giants recap… Today in Baseball History

Today is a bullpen day for the Giants. No starters are going to throw in this game. Pat Misch gets the start today against the Brewers. The Giants do have their green SF Giants hats on today for St. Patrick’s Day. Misch did strike out the first batter he faced. He got Rickie Weeks on a called strike 3. It was an easy first for Misch. He got the Brewers in order. Jeff Suppan gets the start for the Brewers. He also has a very easy inning getting the Giants in order. The 2nd inning Misch did give up a hit to Hart, but did not allow a run. The Giants did get their first base runner in the 2nd inning. Suppan hit Travis Ishikawa in the back. He then got out of the inning by getting Aaron Rowand to ground into a double play. After 2 innings it’s still scoreless. Another good inning for Misch. He has 4 strike outs in 3 innings. Suppan has another 1, 2, 3 inning. After 3 innings it’s still scoreless.
Alex Hinshaw comes in to pitch the 4th inning. Hinshaw walks the first guy he faces. Then gets a double play ball and a strike out to get out of the inning. Suppan went 3 up 3 down again. in the bottom of the 4th. One of the Giants top prospects Madison Bumgarner came in to pitch the top of the 5th inning. Bumgarner was the Giants #1 pick in 2007.  He was 15-3 in the minors last season. Giants fans know they have another great starting pitcher in Madison Bumgarner. He’s probably going to start in Class A for the San Jose Giants. Bumgarner did walk Suppan but pitched a scoreless 5th inning. Pablo Sandoval broke up the no hitter by leading off the 5th with a single. He did get to 3rd base but never scored. Still all tied up after 5 innings. There isn’t much offense in this game so far.
The Giants make a double switch in the top of the 6th inning. They bring in Francis Beltran to pitch and Buster Posey to catch. Beltran is a non roster invite. I figured once Beltran was announced as the pitcher that runs would be scored. Oh well at least it’s not one of our real Giants getting rocked. Beltran gave up a 2 run double to Corey Hart. Brad Nelson then gets a RBI single but gets thrown out trying to take 2nd base. The Brewers score 3 runs in the top of the 6th. The Giants get on the board in the bottom of the 6th inning. Edgar Renteria hits a stand up double. Bocock comes in to run for him and he scores on a single by Fred Lewis. Pablo Sandoval then hits an RBI triple to make the score 3-2 Brewers. That would have been a home run in most ball parks but  it’s 430 feet to centerfield.
Tim Alderson comes in to pitch the 7th inning. He’s another top prospect for the Giants. He was the 27th  over all pick in the 2007 draft. He’s only 20 years old. He went 13-4 for the San Jose Giants last season. He’s another starter that will be pushing to be a starter for the Giants in a few years. Alderson did give up a 2 run home run to Mike Lamb. Brewers get the 2 runs back and now lead 5-2.
Billy Sadler is the Giants pitcher in the 8th inning. He has a great inning going 1, 2, 3 in order. Buster Posey starts the bottom of the 8th inning with a line drive single to left field. Brian Bocock gets an RBI on his ground out. Buster Posey scored to make the score 5-3 Brewers. Andres Torres gets on base with a two out bunt single. Ryan Rohlinger is now up and he’s been money the last couple games in the 9th inning. He hits it deep and it bounces off the wall. Rohlinger ends up hitting an inside the park home run to tie the game up at 5. Now the game is going to the 9th inning all tied up at 5. The Brewers are held scoreless in the top of the 9th. Rich Aurilia starts the bottom of the 9th off with a single. Jesus Guzman hits a walk off 2 run home run to win the game in the bottom of the 9th. Giants get the win 7-5 over the Brewers.
Brewers get 5 runs, 8 hits and 1 error. Giants get 7 runs, 9 hits and 0 errors.
The Giants only have one player with a multi hit game. Pablo Sandoval went 2-3 getting 1 RBI.
Side Notes
Randy Johnson was scratched from today’s start. He has a sore bicep muscle. It’s just a precautionary and Johnson did not need to undergo any physical tests. The Giants are going to shut Johnson down for about a week.
Lincecum will get the start tomorrow against the Cubs.
Juan Uribe got the same #23 as his late uncle Jose Uribe did when he played with the Giants.
