that they are not on teams. They don’t want to sign late and miss the start of the season. I’m sure we will see some signings starting to come quick. Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn signing recently is starting the domino effect for the rest of the players. If someone would have asked you at the beginning of the off-season that your team can get Abreu for $5 million would you have believed them? I’m sure if any team would have thought that. Every team would have jumped to try to get that deal worked out quick. Abreu is a steal for the Angels. It’s such a great move cause they got him for cheap and he can bat anywhere. They don’t expect him to be a huge force. He’s just a great bat that has some pop. He will get them about 20 or more home runs and will hit about .300. Can’t ask for anything more than that for a $5 million deal.
I think Adam Dunn was waiting as long as he could to get a better offer. He just never got it, so he decided to finally sign with the Nationals. The reason I say finally cause it was reported a while back that the Nationals had a contract offer to Dunn but he just kept waiting and waiting. I think he was waiting for Manny to sign and then see what’s out there for him. I’m sure he was hoping Manny wouldn’t sign in LA, so he can sign with the Dodgers.
back. Gary asked him if he thought about retiring since the offers aren’t really there. He said he did not consider retiring and wants to play a few more years.
Only time will tell how this Manny drama will end. Will he hold out past the start of the season and wait to get signed in May? I wish I knew the answer. I’m sure everyone wishes he would just pick a team and sign already. This Manny story has been getting old, but he’s such a big player to still be without a team. Manny could end up really screwing himself if he holds out to long. Teams that have the money for Manny might get tired of waiting and sign other players like Adam Dunn or Bobby Abreu.
Giants are rumored with any and every free agent. The Giants needed so much so pretty much any player addition was a good fit for the Giants. Early on in the “Hot Stove” the Giants were linked to have interest in Rafael Furcal who would have been a great addition at shortstop. They ended up with Edgar Renteria. I don’t think that’s a bad move. Saves some money and Edgar is still an upgrade at shortstop. I think the move is fine if the Giants get another good player. If no other moves are made. Then I don’t see a point. Just let the young guys play. I just think this NL West division is so weak this year. That it’s there for the Giants to just take it. The starting rotation is really solid and the bullpen has been improved with the addition of Jeremy Affeldt and Bob Howry.
We no longer would need Orlando Hudson if we have 3 players who are trying to fight for our 2nd base position. To me it was either Hudson or a shortstop and we already got the shortstop. Pat Burrell who is from the Bay Area didn’t seem like a good fit to me either. He’s just not the big bat I think the Giants should add. It’s known they want a first or third baseman. Ty Wigginton and Joe Crede seem like they would be okay, but they are not the big bat that the Giants need. Adam Dunn sounds okay to me even though he’s not great on “D” and strikes out a lot. I’m just trying to get any bat in a Giants uniform. I would have never said I want Dunn before today. I did also see the Giants were interested in Bobby Abreu and a cheaper alternative to Manny Ramirez. I just can’t see the Giants bringing him. He’s a good player but he’s on the decline with his power numbers.
now shopping Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher around to see what deals are out there for them. Only one of them will be traded. They Yanks would like it to be Nady. The rumor going around right now is that Nick Swisher would be a nice match for the San Francisco Giants. Swisher has hit 104 home runs over the last 4 seasons. He does have some pop, but I don’t think it’s enough pop for how low his average is. His highest average of his career is .262 and last season he hit .219. If I wanted to get someone with pop that has a low average. I would just sign Adam Dunn and not lose any players via a trade.
Then I actually found another blog with something similar. It was about the Giants and what they would do if they were the GM. I do give the guy credit because he did put a lot of time and thought into it, but it just wasn’t realistic. What realistic moves would you make with your team. Trades, free agent signings or whatever you can think of. You can’t change any of the teams your team has already made this off-season. Starting today….
I recently heard the Dodgers are not going to wait for Manny Ramirez and have already let
Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu know that they are interested. This could be a backup plan that is just going to get moved to the front since Ramirez won’t give them an answer about his return to the Dodgers or not. It also can be a move to let Ramirez know hey you need to decide before we make a move to sign one of these other guys.
When I heard about this it got me thinking of different things that can happen. I was thinking wow what if the Dodgers sign Dunn or Abreu and that leaves the Giants to snatch up Ramirez. Then I was also thinking well that would suck if the Dodgers got Dunn and Ramirez signed with another team. That still leaves the Giants with nothing. Well you never know what willl happen. All we can do is voice our opinions and see what the teams do on their own.
