With the trading deadline getting closer and closer. It seems like all you hear now is about different trade rumors that are swirling around. The early rumors was the Giants were interested in Dan Uggla and Nick Johnson. That’s still one that is still going around. The Giants are also linked to Jermaine Dye, Victor Martinez and Mark Teahen. The Giants really do have a lot of options when it comes to making a move. Our offense has a lot of holes that need to be filled.
The Giants offense actually has been coming around, but they can still use
another solid bat or two in their lineup. Dye is a decent bat with some good pop to add, but I wouldn’t give up any top prospects for him. Victor Martinez would be a decent pick up as well. They would have to play him at 1st base when Molina is catching. I’m not to big on making a trade for Teahen. He has a decent bat and can play multiple positions but I would only get him if everything else didn’t go through and I pretty much got him for nothing. I keep going back and forth with Uggla but he does have some pop. His avg is just way down right now, but that could make him a lot easier to trade for. I’m sure the Giants are wishing they made the trade Jonathan Sanchez for Jorge Cantu when the Marlins wanted to make that move.
I would love to see Holliday in a Giants uniform, but I wouldn’t make the trade since the Giants would have to part with some decent players and Holliday’s contract ends after this year, so there is no guarantee that he would sign with the Giants. I hear a lot of fans scared to make a trade cause they don’t want to give up the players that are up and coming. Don’t worry Giants fans they are not going to trade Posey or Bumgarner, but you do have to give up players to get players. That’s why some of these players are in our minors. They can help us with trade bait and then we have some that are untouchable.

The Diamondbacks got 2 hits in the top of the 1st but did not score. Dan Haren gets the start for the D-Backs. He did get Rajai Davis to fly out and then walked Travis Buck. Matt Holliday then grounded into a fielders choice. Forcing out Buck at 2nd base. Haren then faced Jason Giambi and fell off to the side of the mound which caused some concern to the D-Backs, so they came out to check on him. He said he was fine and stayed in the game. He then walked Giambi, so runners on 1st and 2nd. He then got into a 3-0 count and Ellis then hit an RBI single scoring Matt Holliday from 2nd base. Haren then struck out Powell to get out of the inning. After one inning it’s the D-Backs 0 and the A’s 1.
Upton led off the 2nd inning with a single off of Mazzaro. Mazzaro gets Reynolds to strike out. Upton tried to steal 3rd base but got thrown out by A’s catcher Landon Powell. Snyder then strikes out and Skelton grounds out to end the top of the 2nd inning. Bobby Crosby then led off the bottom of the 2nd. I really want this guy to do good. I like him and feel bad that the A’s went out to get Orlando Cabrera. I’m sure they are looking to trade Crosby. He didn’t help himself off because he struck out to start the 2nd inning. Dan Haren retired the A’s in order going 3 up and 3 down to end the 2nd inning.
Dan Haren reached his pitch count after walking Giambi in the bottom of the 4th. He pitched 3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 run, 3 walks and 4 strike outs. Going into the top of the 5th the A’s are still clinging to a 1 run lead. In the bottom of the 5th the A’s got 3 straight hits off of Qualls. Giambi got an RBI single. After 5 innings its the A’s 2 and the D-Backs 0. The A’s add on to the score in the bottom of the 7th inning. Doolittle hits a home run to make the score 5-0. The A’s would add one more run before the inning ends.
The D-Backs did load the bases in the top of the 8th inning, but couldn’t get any runs in. A double play ball ended their chance to score. The D-Backs finally scored in the 9th inning, but to little to late.
The D-Backs score 1 run on 10 hits with 0 errors. The A’s scored 6 runs on 12 hits and 1 error. There was only 2 players who had a multi hit game. The D-Backs Frey had 2 hits in 5 AB’s with the only RBI of the game for the D-Backs. The A’s Mark Ellis was 2-16 coming into this game. Ellis went 2-3 with 1 RBI. That was his first RBI of the spring.
One good thing about listening to the A’s -D-Backs game on the radio was they did a lot of talking about the Giants. I guess cause the Giants and A’s are in the bay area and the D-Backs are in the NL West with the Giants. They also think Zito will have a decent year because he’s going to be the #4 starter. They also think the Giants still need one big bat to add to the lineup. They are saying the same stuff I have been blogging about this whole off season. Does this mean I should work in baseball too? I wish!

The A’s have added some bats to their lineup. They have added Matt
Holliday and Jason Giambi. These guys should help generate more runs for the A’s. Bobby Crosby had a down year and that’s the reason the A’s were making a push for Rafael Furcal. Maybe the non signing of Furcal can be a good thing. Holliday has been hitting with Mark McQwire. Holliday then sent a text to Crosby to see if he would be interested in hitting with them. McGwire has changed Crosby’s mechanics.
Thursday Holliday made his first Bay Area appearance since the A’s acquired him in November from the Rockies. Holliday said “I don’t know what he looked like before, but from the first day I saw when he hit with us to now…he’s pretty drastically different.” This is something all the A’s fans are happy to hear and now it’s wait and see till spring training starts.
I know it’s a baseball blog, but I have non baseball news….
It’s a big weekend in the Bay Area for Warriors fans. Monte Ellis is making his comeback today after a scooter accident has had him out all season. Also Baron Davis comes back to Oakland on Sunday with the Clippers.

The A’s have reached preliminary agreement with Giambi on a one-year contract with a club
option for 2010, according to major-league sources (foxsports.com). A’s fans are welcoming back Jason Giambi back with open arms. Jason always said how much he loved playing in Oakland. He will play first and also DH for the A’s.
He’s a great bat to add to the A’s lineup. The A’s made a big splash this off-season when they traded for Matt Holliday. The A’s will have a little pop in their lineup this year. Jack Cust will continue to serve as both an outfielder and DH.

Today is a good day for the Hot Stove to heat up! The Rays grab Pat Burrell and the Cubs got
Milton Bradley. Both great moves by both teams. The Rays needed a some pop from the right side of the plate. Pat Burrell will be the Rays DH. Milton is a nice bat to add to the Cubs middle of the lineup. He’s a switch hitter so that’s a big plus. Bradley is a good player for the short term, cause you never know if he’s going to turn into the drama Milton Bradley.
A’s are also close to signing Jason Giambi.
Jason has had some great years in the Bay Area, so I’m sure that’s the reason he wants to come back. The A’s also wouldn’t mind having his bat with Matt Holliday in the middle of the A’s lineup.

Well since it’s obvious the Giants are not even trying to sign Manny Ramirez.
It got me looking as to what they can have in mind. The only thing I can think of is the Giants are trying to give the young guys more experience and then try to splurge next off-season on Matt Holliday. Matt Holliday would be a good fit with the Giants. He would be the best free agent available next season.
I recently heard someone on the radio say that it’s good that the A’s traded for Holliday cause it gives him a season to get comfy in the Bay Area so he will want to stay and sign with the Giants next season. That sounds good to me, but with Holliday being the biggest bat available next off-season. I’m sure he’s going to have plenty of teams trying to sign him. Matt Holliday is a great bat but still not a Manny Ramirez who happens to be there for the taking right now! Don’t get me wrong though cause I would still love to see Holliday in Black and Orange.
