Well today is the day we all have been waiting for this Spring. The Giants play the Indians today. Tim Lincecum is going to start and he has a 25 pitch count. Fred Lewis is not going to play. They are going to let him rest his foot and he will play tomorrow against the Dodgers. The Giants flagship station KNBR has been interviewing Giants all morning. They have interviewed Kevin Frandsen, Travis Ishikawa, Jack Taschner, Bruce Bochy and Brian Sabean. I’m sure I have left some guys out.
Sabean said the starting rotation is pretty much set with Lincecum, Johnson, Cain, Zito and Sanchez, Noah Lowry is behind schedule. He has had the flue and his elbow is a little cranky per Brian Sabean.
Renteria is down about 20 pounds from the weight when he started last season with the Tigers. Renteria had to work himself into game shape during the season and they think he didn’t get to game shape until the 2nd half of the season. The Giants signed him because he got himself into game shape and played really well the 2nd half of the season.
Sabean said the Manny front is quiet with the Giants right now. Said he expects Manny to end this soon with the Dodgers. Either sign with them or stop working on a contract with them. Then the Giants would be there, but he does believe Manny will re-sign with the Dodgers. Sabean is not closing the door on Manny until the door is already closed. Brian thinks the Dodgers really need to sign Manny cause they already lost their chance to get Dunn or Abreu.

With everyday passing and spring training getting closer. It seems as if the San Francisco
Giants will end up with Travis Ishikawa as their projected starting first baseman. He hit three home runs with 95 at bats last season. He did have a .274 AVG as well. The Giants really like Ishikawa’s deffense. They think deffense is key for a club that will have to rely on it’s pitching.
The Giants still haven’t ruled out signing a free agent to bat in the fourth spot. Everyone know’s that’s the biggest move they need to make this offseason. Though it does seem more and more likely that they may wait. The Giants don’t feel any preasure from any of the NL West teams. No one has really made themselves better. The Giants feel they can stay in it and make a trade before the trading deadline for that big bat. By then they will know what they got with Lowry and Sanchez. Then they would try to package one of them for a big bat.
Doesn’t sound like the Giants really care about winning this season. They have a great starting staff, so they could be one big bat away from winning the NL West.
