Random Giants Thoughts

I know Pablo Sandoval is no Barry Bonds, but man is this guy fun to watch or what? He had 2 home runs in last night’s game against the Angels. This guy has a .332 AVG and is near the top in the NL. I know he could have more RBI’s if he wasn’t hitting behind Bengie, but hey he can just control what he does at the plate.

The Giants were getting spanked last night until they decided to make their come back. It was a little to late, but at least they didn’t just throw in the towel and wait to try till the next game. The final score was 9-7 Angels. It was looking like it was going to be a 8-0 score till the Giants started to get some stuff together.

I think the Giants are open to anyone that is available in a trade. I mean if a 1st baseman comes available. The Sandoval can go back to 3rd base. If they find a 3rd baseman then Pablo can go to 1st base. Even Fred Lewis hasn’t played well enough to keep his job, so we can take a corner infielder or an outfielder.

I’m getting people asking me what I think about Dan Uggla and other players. I don’t think Uggla is the big bat that we do need, but I do think we need more than one bat. Which means I wouldn’t mind adding that bat. Burriss is playing 2nd and is like in an 0-24 slump right now. Uggla can’t do much worse than that and has home run pop. I would be fine with adding Uggla and try to add another decent bat. I doubt were going to be able to snag a superstar through trades this year, cause the Giants do not want to part with their top prospects.

Please Help My Giants!

Giants still aren’t scoring runs. Zito pitched a good game last night. Zito gave up two solo home runs but that was it. He pitched a complete game and got the loss. Padres won by the score of 2-1. The Giants are trying to shake up the batting order today. They have Aaron Rowand batting leadoff. This will be the first time he’s done that in a Giants uniform. I’m all for trying anything and everything right now. This team has some good and bad games with the bats. Most of the time they are really trying hard to get a run across. Brian Sabean is going to have to really think about what arm in the Giants system is he ready to part with to get a good bat in the line up. Just hope he doesn’t panic and get rid of one of our great arms for an okay bat. If you make a move with our good pitchers. He better get a really good bat in return. I know this isn’t a regular blog for me. I’m just kind of venting right now. =) I will write a blog tomorrow about tonight’s outcome. Go Giants!

Thoughts On Giants Weekend In Los Angeles

Giants fans couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in Los Angeles. Well we could have took some brooms to Dodgers stadium, but were happy with winning 2 games and taking the series. Barry Zito finally got a win and had another nice outing. He’s pitched 4 good games in a row. This is the Zito that the Giants thought they signed.

The Giants still are trying to do whatever they can to get a run. They are probably the best team in baseball at getting bases loaded and finding a way to at least scrape 1 run across. lol Although yesterday Randy Winn did get a double to give the Giants the 7-5 lead in the top of the 13th.

Emmanuel Burris is very hotttttt right now. This guy started the season off in a very big slump. He was batting .161 and then has been on a tear in the past 10 games. He has had multiple hits in 8 out of the last 10 games. His AVG is now .287, and hopefully he keeps the hot swing going.

Side Notes

Brian Wilson struck out Casey Blake friday night with bases loaded. Then Sunday Blake hits a home run to tie the game in the bottom of the 12th off of Wilson. Blake then sat in the Dodgers dugout and mocked Wilson’s religious cross-arm gesture. Wilson and the rest of the Giants are now heated. Giants will not face the Dodgers again until August.

Randy Johnson gets the start tonight against the Washington Nationals. Johnson is looking for win #298. Johnson is also coming off a bad outing in Colorado, so he’s due to pitch a gem today. He’s been outstanding at AT&T Park this year, and also has pitched really well every other game. Which means my money is on a gem from Johnson tonight. Go Giants!

Weekend Recap With The Rockies

The Giants have won five straight series, but that can only last so long with close to no runs being scored.

The Giants were able to take 2 out of 3 from the Rockies this weekend. The Giants are still struggling to get run across, but the starting pitching seems to still be there for them. The Giants somehow are just getting enough runs to get wins. They are doing better than people thought they would. We knew the main problem was going to be scoring runs and that’s still the problem. I’m sure the Giants will make a move if they are close at the trading deadline.

Friday

The Giants sent Randy Johnson to the mound. He went 7 strong innings and striking out 9 Rockies. He just gave up 4 hits. Howry and Affeldt did give up 2 runs to make the game close. Wilson did come in to close it out and the Giants get the Win 3-2 and Johnson picks up win #297.

Saturday

The most consistent Giants starting pitcher took the mound on Saturday. Cain did pitch 6 innings, but did give up 5 runs. The Giants didn’t get on the board till the bottom of the 9th. Pablo Sandoval hit a solo home run over the right field wall. Rockies took game two by the score of 5-1. After two games the series was tied 1-1.

Sunday

Barry Zito was the game 3 starter for the Giants. Zito pitched another great game for the Giants. He pitched 7 shut out innings and only gave up 2 hits. He retired 15 consecutive batters from the 1st to the 6th innings. This game was a 0-0 game until Aurilia got a game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Giants won game 3 by a score of 1 to 0. The Giants took the series with the Rockies.

Conserving Power!

I remember when the Giants had power in the lineup. Seeing Bonds at the game last night. Made me think back when we knew we can watch him swing at least 3 times a night. This guy had to conserve as much power so he can let it rip with every swing. lol Watch the clip below. Awwwww the good ole days with Bonds. We miss your bat Barry!!!!!!

Giants, Dodgers and Bonds… Oh My!

Last night was a very cold and windy. You can see players between pitches blowing into their hands trying to warm them up. It reminded me of Candlestick Park. Watching games there with the wind blowing like crazy. =)

Another great start last night for the Giants starting rotation. Zito had 6 scoreless innings till the Dodgers got to him in the 7th inning. Zito and Sandoval have some kind of connection, cause Zito looks very comfortable with Sandoval behind the plate. Giants did have a 3-0 lead till the Dodgers got 4 in the 7th inning. Merkin Valdez came in with a runner on 1st and the Giants clinging to a 1 run lead. After the inning it was the Dodgers 4 and the Giants 3. The Giants did score 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to take the lead right back. Brian Wilson then came in to strike out the side. He must had felt like he had to make a statement. Wilson also has deleted his Twitter Account. The media was on him for twittering late Saturday night about going out and then he got a blow save the next day. Dumb media! lol Wilson had just added me to follow me on twitter and not I have no chance at trying to interview him. =(

Giants are looking good right now. Once they lost the lead. I figured they were done. It was a very cold night, so it was easy for them to just throw in the towels and wait to try it again another day. These guys are starting to score a few runs. They send Sanchez to the mound tonight. He’s the one who started this impressive run by the starting rotation, so I’m hoping he can keep it going.

Barry Bonds made his way to AT&T Park last night. He was all smiles out there last night. It’s obvious he misses being out there and hearing all the fans chant his name. Bonds did say he was hoping the Giants would have got Manny Ramirez. He was saying how great of a hitter he is. He also was saying that the Giants have something good with Fred Lewis in left field. He has been watching all of the Giants games on TV. Said he’s seen Johnson 6 innings of no hit ball. He thinks this team has a great rotation and they are a good team with some good players. Bonds was like a different person last night and I’m glad people who were watching the game got to see that side of him. He was really nice, fun and joking around. You can tell his passion is still baseball. Just listening to him talk about hitting and breaking down Manny Ramirez’s hitting when he was at the plate. He needs to stay in the game some how, cause he has so much to offer to players. Bonds still said he’s not retired but he’s just a fan right now. He’s a big fan of the organization and he will always be a Giant.

Thoughts Of The Giants So Far….

Tonight the Giants will be on the road in Arizona to face the D-Backs. Giants are 6-2 at home and I don’t think they really want to leave home. That’s where they are getting their wins. They are 0-6 on the road. Giants have a great pitching staff and AT&T Park is a great place to pitch. Last road trip the Giants didn’t have good at bats. Giants need to get better at the plate on this road trip. Fred Lewis isn’t a leadoff hitter but the Giants have been putting him there cause he gets on base a lot. The problem is he has been striking out a lot. He would be a better #5 hitter. I still like him in the lineup. I just think they need to move him out of the leadoff spot. If position players continue to struggle. Bochy isn’t going to sit back and just let them struggle. The Giants have options to get other players in the lineup. I know Bochy wants to get Schierholtz in the game and even Andres Torres.

Zito is coming off a great start. The Giants are thinking they might need to have Sandoval catch Zito’s games. They seem to have some good games together. Zito has pitched good this spring. I’m sure he’s going to have a good season.

Side Notes

I must say I was happy this morning when I checked my email and seen that Brian Wilson added me on twitter. He only has a few people that he follows and has tons of people that follow him. I wonder what made him decide to follow me. I’m just hoping he will ready my blog and maybe let me interview him.

Zito Tosses 7 Scoreless Innings, Giants Win in 10!

The Giants have been getting some great starting pitching and Zito follows up with some good pitching as well. Zito pitches 7 scorless innings and the Giants just can’t get any run support for him.  Chris Young also was pitching very well for the Padres.

Jeremy Affeldt comes in to pitch the 8th inning and does allow a runner to get to 3rd base, but does strike out Adrian Gonzalez to end the inning.

Brian Wilson comes in the 9th inning trying to keep the Padres scoreless so they Giants can try to win it in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Wilson only gives up a single, so the Giants head to the bottom of the 9th inning. Just  needing 1 run to win the game.  The Giants do not score and the game goes to extra innings. Wilson ends up pitching 2 scoreless innings. The game is now in the bottom of the 10th inning. Andres Torres gets a single to right field and steals 2nd base. Giants have the winning run on 2nd base with 1 out. Eugenio Velez strikes out and the Padres intentionally walk Fred Lewis, so the Giants bring in Bengie Molina to pinch hit. Bengie hits a 2 out Pinch Hit ground rule double to win the game for the Giants. The Giants sweep the 2 game series with the Padres and have now won 3 games in a row.

Great pitching by both teams today. The Giants starting rotation has been great in the last 5 starts. This team just needs to figure out a way to score more runs. Zito had a great outing and he won’t get the win, but he did his job keeping the Giants in the game.

Redemption vs. Padres?

The Giants play a short 2 game series with the Padres. I’m sure the Giants would love to get a little redemption since they Padres swept them in San Diego. It won’t be an easy task for the Giants. The Padres send Peavy to the mound tonight against Cain. Then tomorrow the Padres send Young against Zito. Cain should be able to make a good pitching match up tonight against Peavy. The big question is if the Giants can score any runs. Game 2 has Zito on the mound so I’m sure most Giants fans are chalking that up as a loss. I guess were just going for the split. lol I’m sure Zito will be fine. It’s just everyone expects him to fail since he hasn’t really shown anything in a Giants uniform.

Giants have been shuffling their lineup around trying to shake things up. Burriss and Ishikawa have been in a slump since the season started. Pablo Sandoval hasn’t hit like he can, but he does have games here and there where you can tell he can hit. I think he’s out of his slump and you should see the ball jumping off his bat.

Tonight I will be switching back and forth from the Giants and Sharks games. It’s a must win for the Sharks tonight since they have dropped the first 2 games. I love when I can flip back from different games. It’s going to be a nice night. Go Giants and Go Sharks!

Giants vs. Rangers (game 2) Recap – Today In Baseball History!

The Giants get an early 2 nothing lead on a 2 run double by catcher Steve Holm. Scoring on the hit was Uribe and Horwitz. The Giants end up with a 5 run 2nd inning. Pablo Sandoval gets a 2 run single to knock the starter Matt Harrison out of the game. Burriss and Velez scored on Sandoval’s single.

Josh Hamilton (on my 2nd fantasy team) hit a home run off of Zito in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The score after 3 innings is Giants 5 and the Rangers 3.

Torres hit a solo home run off of Jennings in the 6th inning to give the Giants a 6-3 lead.

Giants have runners on the corners for Pablo Sandoval. He hits a RBI stand up double off the fence. Burriss scores from the 3rd and Aurilia moves to 3rd base on the hit. Going into the bottom of the 7th it’s the Giants 7 and the Rangers 3.

Giants score more in the top of the 8th. Torres scores on a RBI single by Wald. The Giants get another run on a RBI single by Velez. Aurilia follows up with another RBI single scoring Burriss. The score is now Giants 10 and the Rangers 3.

Totals

Giants win on 10 runs, 14 hits and 0 errors. Rangers get 3 runs, 6 hits and 2 errors.

Multi Hit Game

The Giants have 4 players to have a multi hit game.

  • Emmanuel Burriss went 2-5 scoring 3 runs.
  • Rich Aurilia went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s.
  • Pablo Sandoval went 2-5 with 3 RBI’s.
  • Andres Torres went 2-5 with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs.

Pitching Highlights

Barry Zito had a very solid game. Zito went 7 strong innings. He gave up 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 strike outs and a solo home run to Josh Hamilton.

Giants two new relievers Howry and Affeldt both pitched a perfect 8th and 9th inning.

Giants pitching Zito, Howry and Affeldt sat down the last 12 Rangers in order.

Giants Side Notes

One week from today the Giants will have their opening day with the Brewers.

Fred Lewis is only going to play Left Field this year. Lewis has heard a lot of stuff yelled at him while playing Left Field. Last season at Wrigley Field and Dodgers Stadium he heard. “Hey Barry, you look skinny.” Lewis said “I got that one all the time. I’m not Barry. I’m Fred Lewis. The name and the number on the back say it all.”

Today In Baseball History

1961 – The Pacific Coast League’s proposal to use a designated hitter for the pitcher is rejected by the Professional Baseball Rules Committee by a vote of 8-1. The first use of the DH will occur in the American League in 1973.
