Giants 2010 Payroll Is Up!

Hey Giants fans or fans of at team in the NL West. I recently did a break down of the Giants payroll. The payroll is up 19% from the 2009 payroll. The team hasn’t changed much but there was two additions to the offense (Mark DeRosa & Aubrey Huff) and the rest is raises for all these young guns! See how much Tim Lincecum, Brian Wilson and Matt Cain are making this year.

If you would like to see the article check it out SF Giants Rumors – Show Me The Money!. You can also see the break down of the NL West Payrolls and each teams highest paid player.

All The Latest SF Giants Rumors

Random Thoughts 9/23

This is a short little blog. Just some random thoughts. It’s time to keep it real Giants fans. We are currently 5 games out with 11 games to go and our chances are slim to none. I believe the Giants went above and beyond what anyone expected this year. No I’m not throwing up the white flag, but just trying to keep it real. We were a big bat away from winning a lot of game this year. We knew coming into the season offense was going to be our problem and our pitching staff was going to be keeping us in games. Our pitching brought us this far and now Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez are tired and not able to keep up the strong pitching.

I say we start the Posey era tonight. Let’s see what he can do for the rest of the season. Molina looks so tired out there. Let’s get Bumgarner a start too before this season ends. Let’s see what we have, so we can get a little excited for next season.

Last Homestand before the All Start Break

The Giants were able to take 2 out of 3 from the Astros. Giants were laying the “Smacketh Down” on the Astros in the firs two games. Then in game 3 they sent Randy Johnson to the mound. I know I was expecting a sweep with the way they were hitting and Johnson pitching. Well it didn’t happen like that. Giants end up losing and Johnson hurt his throwing shoulder and were still waiting a MRI to see how serious the injury is.

The next 3 games are against the Florida Marlins. I’m expecting the Giants to take 2 out of 3 from the Marlins. Matt Cain starts tonight’s game. Then Zito tomorrow and Sadowski on Wed. Once that series is over the Giants have the Padres coming to town for a 4 game series. The Giants should at least split that series, but I would have for a series win against the Padres. They should close out the first 1/2 of the season on a high note.

Congrats to Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain for making the All Star team. Don’t forget to go to MLB.com and vote for Pablo Sandoval to make the All Star Team!

Trading Deadline Is Near…

With the trading deadline getting closer and closer. It seems like all you hear now is about different trade rumors that are swirling around. The early rumors was the Giants were interested in Dan Uggla and Nick Johnson. That’s still one that is still going around. The Giants are also linked to Jermaine Dye, Victor Martinez and Mark Teahen. The Giants really do have a lot of options when it comes to making a move. Our offense has a lot of holes that need to be filled.

The Giants offense actually has been coming around, but they can still use
JDye.jpganother solid bat or two in their lineup. Dye is a decent bat with some good pop to add, but I wouldn’t give up any top prospects for him. Victor Martinez would be a decent pick up as well. They would have to play him at 1st base when Molina is catching. I’m not to big on making a trade for Teahen. He has a decent bat and can play multiple positions but I would only get him if everything else didn’t go through and I pretty much got him for nothing. I keep going back and forth with Uggla but he does have some pop. His avg is just way down right now, but that could make him a lot easier to trade for. I’m sure the Giants are wishing they made the trade Jonathan Sanchez for Jorge Cantu when the Marlins wanted to make that move.

I would love to see Holliday in a Giants uniform, but I wouldn’t make the trade since the Giants would have to part with some decent players and Holliday’s contract ends after this year, so there is no guarantee that he would sign with the Giants. I hear a lot of fans scared to make a trade cause they don’t want to give up the players that are up and coming. Don’t worry Giants fans they are not going to trade Posey or Bumgarner, but you do have to give up players to get players. That’s why some of these players are in our minors. They can help us with trade bait and then we have some that are untouchable.

Random Giants Thoughts

I know Pablo Sandoval is no Barry Bonds, but man is this guy fun to watch or what? He had 2 home runs in last night’s game against the Angels. This guy has a .332 AVG and is near the top in the NL. I know he could have more RBI’s if he wasn’t hitting behind Bengie, but hey he can just control what he does at the plate.

The Giants were getting spanked last night until they decided to make their come back. It was a little to late, but at least they didn’t just throw in the towel and wait to try till the next game. The final score was 9-7 Angels. It was looking like it was going to be a 8-0 score till the Giants started to get some stuff together.

I think the Giants are open to anyone that is available in a trade. I mean if a 1st baseman comes available. The Sandoval can go back to 3rd base. If they find a 3rd baseman then Pablo can go to 1st base. Even Fred Lewis hasn’t played well enough to keep his job, so we can take a corner infielder or an outfielder.

I’m getting people asking me what I think about Dan Uggla and other players. I don’t think Uggla is the big bat that we do need, but I do think we need more than one bat. Which means I wouldn’t mind adding that bat. Burriss is playing 2nd and is like in an 0-24 slump right now. Uggla can’t do much worse than that and has home run pop. I would be fine with adding Uggla and try to add another decent bat. I doubt were going to be able to snag a superstar through trades this year, cause the Giants do not want to part with their top prospects.

The Giants Take Game One From D-Backs – Trades?

Matt Cain took the mound and didn’t look as good as he’s looked all season, but it was good enough to get the win last night. Cain is now sitting with an 8-1 record. I’m sure some people might start to consider him as a possible Cy Young candidate for this season. He’s got an 8-1 record, 2.55 ERA and 59 K’s. Since all the draft talk is going around. Matt Cain was drafted in the 2002 draft at the #25 pick from Houston High School (TN).

Pablo Sandoval hit a monster shot last night that probably still hasn’t landed. It was like a Barry Bonds blast. This guy is my favorite everyday player. He just plays the game at a 100%, and has fun out there. I guess before the game Sandoval told the team that no one will give high-fives to the guy that hits the first home run. Well Juan Uribe hit one and walked into the dugout pumped up and no one even looked at him. You can see Bengie Molina trying to hold back his smile/laugh. Uribe finally just started high-fiving everyone till they gave in and reacted with excitement like him. It was funny to watch. They kept replaying it after the game.

The Giants send Zito to the mound tonight. Hoping he can secure the series win with the D-Backs tonight. We all know the Giants will more than likely make a trade soon, but no new names have surfaced in the trade rumors. I’m pretty much done with Fred Lewis. I want him to do good and I think he’s athletic. He’s just not able to put it all together. He strikes out half the time he’s batting. I’m willing to part with him in a trade and get a corner outfielder. We have a lot of holes, so we pretty much can get any decent player out there and plug him in somewhere. This teams needs to make more than one move to fill some holes. I’m just hoping they at least make a move soon to get the train moving in the right direction.

Sandoval Hits a Walk-Off Home Run!

The Giants win again. They had a 5-1 lead over the Nationals going into the 7th inning. Nick Johnson hit a 3 run home run off of Matt Cain to make it a 5-4 ball game. Then the Nationals added 3 more runs in the top of the 8th
SandovalwalkoffHR.jpginning to make it 7-5 Nationals. Bengie Molina hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th to make it 7-6 Nationals. Then the Giants come up in the bottom of the 9th inning down by 1 run. Joe Beimel got the first 2 Giants players out. He just couldn’t get the last out to end the game. Emmanuel Burriss hit a single to centerfield. Then Beimel tried to pick him off at first and threw the ball away, so the tying run is now at 2nd base. Edgar Renteria steps to the plate, and he’s been clutch with guys on base or when the Giants need a big him. Renteria ended up walking to set up 1st and 2nd for Pablo Sandoval. Beimel did have 2 strikes on Sandoval and then Pablo got a pitch that he liked and hit a line drive home run over the left field walk for a walk off 3 run home run! Giants win 9-7… All that started with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. The Giants are finding ways to win. They haven’t lost a series in 9 straight series. They have either split or won the series.

Weekend Recap With The Rockies

The Giants have won five straight series, but that can only last so long with close to no runs being scored.

The Giants were able to take 2 out of 3 from the Rockies this weekend. The Giants are still struggling to get run across, but the starting pitching seems to still be there for them. The Giants somehow are just getting enough runs to get wins. They are doing better than people thought they would. We knew the main problem was going to be scoring runs and that’s still the problem. I’m sure the Giants will make a move if they are close at the trading deadline.

Friday

The Giants sent Randy Johnson to the mound. He went 7 strong innings and striking out 9 Rockies. He just gave up 4 hits. Howry and Affeldt did give up 2 runs to make the game close. Wilson did come in to close it out and the Giants get the Win 3-2 and Johnson picks up win #297.

Saturday

The most consistent Giants starting pitcher took the mound on Saturday. Cain did pitch 6 innings, but did give up 5 runs. The Giants didn’t get on the board till the bottom of the 9th. Pablo Sandoval hit a solo home run over the right field wall. Rockies took game two by the score of 5-1. After two games the series was tied 1-1.

Sunday

Barry Zito was the game 3 starter for the Giants. Zito pitched another great game for the Giants. He pitched 7 shut out innings and only gave up 2 hits. He retired 15 consecutive batters from the 1st to the 6th innings. This game was a 0-0 game until Aurilia got a game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Giants won game 3 by a score of 1 to 0. The Giants took the series with the Rockies.

Up Next

They are in Chicago tonight to face the Cubs in a short 2 game series. This is the Giants only trip to Chicago this year, and it will be over in a blink of the eye.

Giants Weekend In Arizona (Recap)

Friday Night

The Giants had a very nice weekend in Arizona. Lincecum look really good on Friday night. He got his first win of the season. Lincecum struck out 12 D-Backs and a total of 25 in his last 2 starts (both against the D-Backs). In the 2 games Lincecum only gave up 1 run in 16 innings against the D-Backs. The Giants won the Friday night game 5-1.

Saturday

Saturday the Giants sent Randy Johnson to the mound. He was struggling and walked 7 guys. That’s the most guys he’s walked since July 25th 2000. He only lasted 3 1/3 innings. The Giants picked up Johnson and managed to still get the win. The Giants won 5-3 over the D-Backs.

Sunday

The Giants were going for the 3 game sweep on Sunday. They sent Matt Cain to the mound. Cain has had the best start out of the 5 Giants starting pitchers. Cain pitched 7 innings only allowing 1 run. Pablo Sandoval hit a 3 run home run in the top of the 8th inning to give the Giants a 4-1 lead. Cain was in line to get the win. The Giants bring in closer Brian Wilson to close the game out. Didn’t look like Wilson was able to locate his pitches where he wanted to. Wilson gave up 3 runs in the 9th inning and 2 came off a game-tying two run home run by Justin Upton. We did let a sweep slip away, but still a very good weekend overall. Giants lost in the 12th inning 4-5. Giants fans are happy with being able to take 2 out of 3 from the D-Backs in Arizona. I’m sure Wilson will be ready to go against the Dodgers.

Redemption vs. Padres?

The Giants play a short 2 game series with the Padres. I’m sure the Giants would love to get a little redemption since they Padres swept them in San Diego. It won’t be an easy task for the Giants. The Padres send Peavy to the mound tonight against Cain. Then tomorrow the Padres send Young against Zito. Cain should be able to make a good pitching match up tonight against Peavy. The big question is if the Giants can score any runs. Game 2 has Zito on the mound so I’m sure most Giants fans are chalking that up as a loss. I guess were just going for the split. lol I’m sure Zito will be fine. It’s just everyone expects him to fail since he hasn’t really shown anything in a Giants uniform.

Giants have been shuffling their lineup around trying to shake things up. Burriss and Ishikawa have been in a slump since the season started. Pablo Sandoval hasn’t hit like he can, but he does have games here and there where you can tell he can hit. I think he’s out of his slump and you should see the ball jumping off his bat.

Tonight I will be switching back and forth from the Giants and Sharks games. It’s a must win for the Sharks tonight since they have dropped the first 2 games. I love when I can flip back from different games. It’s going to be a nice night. Go Giants and Go Sharks!
